ARC Fellow joins Curtin's Department of Spatial Sciences

5 February 2009

Australian Research Council (ARC) Federation Fellow, and internationally renowned geodesist, Professor Peter Teunissen has joined Curtin's Department of Spatial Sciences.

Professor Teunissen's appointment is a milestone for Curtin as the first Federation Fellow to be hosted by the University. His appointment follows on from his role in a Curtin-led 2007 ARC project to extend key technologies for next-generation Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS).

Professor Teunissen will lead a team of researchers to improve Australia's capability in utilising modernised Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and GNSS by addressing critical theoretical and modelling issues. The aim is to create one 'virtual' GNSS (in effect a system of systems) which will help to improve information for future geospatial technologies, such as vehicle navigation, automated machine guidance and location-based services.

For more information about the work undertaken by Professor Teunissen's team, read the article Positioning the Future, in the latest edition of R&D Now.
