Dr Jackie Huggins AM, Deputy Director of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Unit at the University of Queensland, will present the 2009 Rob Riley Memorial Lecture on Friday 8 May.
Celebration or Commiseration: Post Apology Blues will attempt to debunk myths and shed light on the journey since the Apology. She will also give her personal vision for what comes next.
Dr Huggins is the former Co-Chair of Reconciliation Australia and a lifelong campaigner for reconciliation and equality for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.
Rob Riley was an Indigenous statesman and leader of his people whose untimely death was mourned throughout Australia. Inspired by his conviction that Australia had to confront its history of dispossession of Aboriginal people from their lands and all that has flowed from it, Riley worked tirelessly to advance social justice and reconciliation with non-Indigenous Australia.
